I create surface design for holidays and everyday. I enjoy collaborating with art directors to create fun illustrations and patterns for products. You can also find my published books and products as Karen Wolcott.
When my mom introduced me to drawing with pastels and the expressive style of Henri deToulouse-Lautrec, it completely rocked my world. I have been filling sketchbooks ever since.
I received a BFA in Visual Communications with an emphasis on Studio Photography from Ohio University. Before starting my own illustration business, I refined my skills as a photo editor and stylist and then graphic designer and art director in Cleveland, Los Angeles and Omaha. I stay inspired with my art supply obsession and hone my craft by continually learning new ways to create with Adobe software.
As a commissioned illustrator, I have created illustrations for children’s books, women’s magazines and advertisements. My love for prints, decorating for holidays and probably too many trips to Hobby Lobby brought about my desire to create fun, celebratory design for products. The experience I gained as an art director, preparing files for press and seeing projects through from inception to completion, has been beneficial in working with companies to create garden flags with coordinating products and party ware.
I would love to work with you on your next project. We can find a new way to celebrate a holiday or add a fun look to an everyday product. If you would like to see existing work available for licensing, I have many collections ready to go.
